The Moroccan Sahara is magical year-round, but some seasons are far more comfortable than others. Here's when to go.
Spring (March–May)
The best time. Days are warm, nights are cool, and the desert blooms after winter rains. Ideal for a Fes to Merzouga desert tour.
Autumn (September–November)
Also excellent. Temperatures drop to comfortable levels and the light at sunrise and sunset is spectacular.
Summer (June–August)
Very hot — daytime temperatures can exceed 45°C. Only for travelers who can handle extreme heat; most tours run at dawn and after sunset.
Winter (December–February)
Days are pleasant but nights are genuinely cold in the desert. Bring warm layers for the camp.
Tips for any season
- Always pack warm clothes for the night, even in summer.
- Book your desert camp in advance in spring and autumn.
- A private tour means you control the pace and avoid the crowds.
