Chefchaouen, Morocco's famous Blue City, is one of the most popular day trips from Fes. Here's how to get there.
The distance
Chefchaouen is about 200 km from Fes, roughly a 3.5 to 4 hour drive through the Rif Mountains.
Option 1: Private day trip (recommended)
The easiest and most comfortable way is a Fes to Chefchaouen day trip. You're picked up at your riad, travel in a private air-conditioned car, explore the Blue City at your own pace, and return the same day. A local guide in Chefchaouen is optional; ask for it to be included in your quote.
Option 2: Bus
CTM and private bus companies run Fes–Chefchaouen in about 4 hours. It is generally less flexible than private transport. Check the operator's current timetable and plan how to reach your accommodation or the medina from the arrival point.
Option 3: Shared / grand taxi
Faster than the bus but cramped for a long mountain drive. Best for budget travelers.
What to do in Chefchaouen
- Wander the blue-painted medina.
- Visit the Kasbah and small museum.
- Climb to the Spanish Mosque for sunset.
- Shop for woven blankets and local goat cheese.
A private Fes to Chefchaouen day trip lets you see it all without the stress of buses and taxis. See all our Fes tours.
